Listening to: Stumbling Home

By Lunng Fern & Marta Gynku, from the instrumental acoustic guitar and flute album Zwischenraum.  This album is beautiful and melancholic.  "Zwischenraum" translates to English as "gap, the space between two objects".

Stumbling Home is pensive and heartfelt.  When listening, one can't help but imagine walking a dark street, homebound, drunkenly remembering.

Listening to: All I Need

The credits song from Mr. Jones (2013), the movie that finally made me start prop making. When I first started, I would have this song on repeat as I scavenged sticks and bound them with jute.  Right now, I'm listening to it as I plan and prepare for Halloween 2022.

I think I'll make a standalone Mr. Jones blog post in the future.  Maybe even share some of my early works inspired by the film.

Listening to: Blue Drag (1935)

Featuring Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli, founders of Quintette du Hot Club de France and the originators of the musical style that came to be known as "gypsy jazz".

"Blue Drag" was originally composed by Russian composer Josef Myrow circa 1932.  There have been several recordings by different artists before and after Reinhardt/Grappelli, but theirs remains my favorite.

For no clear reason, I've always associated this song with Halloween, imagining it being played at a vintage masquerade soiree.

Personally, I listen to it whenever I'm carving pumpkins... on loop.  It just feels right. *shrug*
