Rübengeistern

(an English approximation might be "root ghosts")

"When we were kids we used to carve Turnips at school. They had ugly faces and grimaces. They cut off the lower pointed part and hollowed them out. Finally the pointed root part came on top. Looked wonderful. Our Turnip variety was inside nice yellow and we left the rest of the earth on the outside. So she got a nice creepy look. Unfortunately, the custom is disappearing more and more and the turnip has been replaced by pumpkins."

Gravestones of New England

@GravestonesOfNewEngland - A very cool Instagram account that documents some very old tombstones around New England.  Here are some of my favorites:

Really inspiring me to cram some of my props into my little sedan and drive to the nearest wooded area for a photoshoot.

Bog Man

Sweet groundbreaker by G. Payne.  Looks like a bog body brought back to life. Nice and goopy!

Now Watching: The Last of Us

Just saw the first episode of HBO's The Last of Us. It's as long as a feature film, and incredibly well-executed. As a fan of the original video game, I was pleased by how many scenes in the episode were a direct pull from the game.

Those unfamiliar with the game(s) will have no trouble watching the show. Seriously check it out.
